When should I consult an accountant?

Give your accountant plenty of notice of your requirements so that your work will be carried in time in advance of the approaching deadlines. As all accountants work to deadlines with the consequent effect on workload, it is impossible to give the client the attention he or she deserves if they expect to be attended to at the last minute.

Always consult an accountant about you particular financial issues so that you can receive tailor made advice and services to suit your particular circumstances. Do not rely on the Internet whiteout seeking independent advice.

Your should consult an accountant in regard planning for the future such as wills and inheritances, asset procurement and financing, investments etc.

 

When do I have to file a tax return?

For an individual, all tax returns in respect of the preceding tax year must be filed in paper format on or before 31st October and on line by 21st November and the balance of the tax due is payable by the same date.

Also an individual must pay their tax on account, called Preliminary Tax, on or before 31st October and on line by 21st November for the current tax year.

Likewise a company must file their corporation tax returns by 21st day of the ninth month after their year end.

VAT is returnable by the 19th of the month following the end of the two month taxable period. The VAT annual return is filed by the 19th of the month following the end of taxable year.

PAYE is returnable by the 14th of the month following the end of taxable month. The P35 annual return is filed by 21st February in the year following the end of taxable year.

How long does it take to form a Business?

Provided that the client has a good business plan it can take about two weeks to
a) register the business name,
b) open a bank account and
c) obtain the tax registrations.

A Company will take about a minimum of 5 days and normally two working weeks to register. It can take about two weeks to
a) open a bank account and
b) obtain the tax registrations.

What do I need to open a Bank Account?

In line with the regulations on Money Laundering, your bank will require the following forms of identity: a) passport or driver's license b) a utility bill to prove address.

For a company they will also need
a) certificate of incorporation and
b) copy of the latest B10 Change of Directors file with the Companies Office

For a sole tradership they will also require a certificate of registration of the business name.

Is there a charge for a first consultation?

Where we are required to set up a longterm business relationship, we do not charge for the initial consultation.

However, where a once off consultation service is provided there will be a charge for the time involved.
